What are the benefits of Champix?

This tricks the receptors into thinking that you have received a nicotine dose, which will satisfy your craving for a cigarette. Champix varenicline tartate also blocks nicotine from acting on the nicotinic receptors, which takes away any pleasure you might experience from inhaling nicotine. This means that if you do smoke, you simply won’t enjoy it.

Who is suitable to take Champix?

Anyone 18 years and older, who is serious about quitting smoking, can request a course of Champix varenicline tartrate tablets. There are, however, precautions to taking this medication. Patients who are pregnant, epileptic, have an impaired kidney function, or a history of psychiatric illness such as depression, are not advised to take this medication because it could cause serious side effects.

How do I take Champix varenicline tartrate tablets?

Before you begin, set a date when you wish to quit smoking. Champix should be taken during the week before this date. Those seven days give the medication's ingredients time to be fully active in your body, making sure that they are working effectively by the time you start to quit.

The normal recommended starting dosage is a single 0.5mg pill for the initial three days of treatment. Patients should then take two 0.5mg pills for the next four days. The 1mg pill should then be taken twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, for the remaining 11 weeks of treatment.

Are there side effects?

This medication has, in a small number of cases, caused adverse effects in users which include headaches, insomnia, dizziness, abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion and flatulence. It may also react with some skin types causing a mild rash and itching sensation. These effects are not common, and should pass quite quickly.

In exceptionally rare cases Champix varenicline has been known to cause behavioural changes such as depression. You should inform your partner or close friends or family when you begin treatment so that they can take note of any changes in your mood.
