According to US psychiatrist, Dr. Madeleine Castellanos’ latest book, the number of men suffering from a condition known as delayed ejaculation (DE) is on the increase due to internet pornography and excessive masturbation.

The book titled, Penis Problems: A Men’s Guide, looks at a variety of male sexual problems, among which the modern day anomaly of DE. Dr Casterlanos has become more and more prevalent in men in recent years. Although this kind of endurance sounds desirable to some men, it’s a very real issue for those suffering from DE.

Men with DE usually require a significant amount of stimulation in order to ejaculate, which can be very ‘awkward and exhausting’ for both partners and can place unnecessary strain on man’s sex life.

Unlike premature ejaculation, delayed ejaculation isn’t something that a man is likely to be born with and tends to develop as a result of medications, frequent masturbation and exposure to visual stimulus such as pornography, says Dr Casterlanos.

Some of the medications that are most likely to affect men are anti-depressants that act as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Incidentally SSRIs affect the body in a similar way to Priligy, which is currently the only medicine to treat premature ejaculation. Other medications that could delay ejaculation are those designed to treat anxiety, cold symptoms, insomnia and pain.

Drinking too much alcohol is also a risk factor. Alcohol acts as a depressant on the central nervous system, and when it doesn’t make it difficult for a man to maintain and get an erection, it can influence how long it takes for a man to ejaculate.

Dr Casterlanos believes that the sheer volume of free pornography is also to blame, as men have almost instant access to more and more extreme and highly provocative materials, almost making them numb to the real experience. Pornography is also what leads to an increase in the amount of times a man masturbates, which increases sexual stamina.

DE in most cases is highly treatable and Dr Casterlanos says that men with the condition will benefit from cutting down on their drinking and taking a break from pornography and masturbation.
